July 31, 2008: Grand Court Villas has been sold for $6.15M. I don't know anything about the buyers but odds are the new ownership will be an improvement
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grand Court Villas (aka The Cigar Factory) was built in the 1920's as replica
of a Cuban cigar factory. For years, high quality cigars were rolled in this
plant.
After the Cuban embargo, the cigar business quickly dried up and the building
suffered through various other uses. Eventually it was rennovated into a condo
complex in the 1980s.
Today, Grand Court Villas is one of the nicest rental complexes in Trenton.
The ceilings are 16ft., there are some decks with great views and the building
has underground parking. Yet, it's not quite kept up to a luxery standard. There's
a leak in the hallway on the 2nd floor that's gone unfixed for some time. Many
of the units have ongoing issues such as leaky windows and faulty heat and air.
New rumour is that the owner has decided not to sell these units. Couldn't get enough for them. Too bad.
